Plzen / Pilsen

Located about an hour and a half [via train] south west of Praha, Plzen (Pilsen) is one of the Czech Republic's business and industrial centers (most famous for its breweries and car manufacturers). I spent several days there.

This the entrance to olde monastary and chapel.

Bohemia Chips !!!

This is Plzen's main church, located in the square at the center of town. I think its architecture is beautiful. The entire structure has a very `vertical' theme to it - everything about it is long, thin, and tall: the windows, the spires, and the columns and statues inside.

Plzen's Original Town Wall: Well here it is. It doesn't quite have all the splendor of Eden, but it's the last remaining part of the original town wall. Plzen celebrated its 700th anniversary last summer (June 1995).

I never made it into this building, but I liked the way it looks. In the middle ages, it was a meat market - now it's an art gallery.

Plzen: tram, cobblestones.

It seems that even the simplest buildings had some artwork, carvings or paintings, on them.

The old water tower.
