Kristinn R. Thórisson

Short Biography

Dr. Kris Thórisson has been developing A.I. technologies for 15 years. His work in the Wizard Group at LEGO Digital [1 2] sought to integrate virtual reality and artificially intelligent, interactive creatures, in one of the largest efforts of its kind in Europe. As VP of Engineering at Soliloquy Inc. New York he directed the development of natural language bots that assisted on-line customers of CNET.com and Buy.com, creating one of the world's most advanced such automated sales assistants ever deployed for commercial use on the Internet. He has consulted on business and technology for numerous companies including British Telecom, Interactive Institute, D. C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant High-Fidelity Simulator Facility, Wang Computers [2 3], OZ Interactive, Kaupthing, and NASA [2 3].

and LEGO Digital has been featured on numerous news and television programs including CNN Impact, BBC and Scientific American Frontiers. He is founder of MINDMAKERS.ORG, a consortium and forum aimed at collaboration among A.I. researchers and sharing of software for large interactive artificial intelligence systems. Kris was CTO of Radar Networks Inc., a company he co-founded to develop the next generation of semantic Internet technologies, which has been funded by Vulcan Ventures and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, among others. In 2005 he co-founded the Center for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents (CADIA) at Reykjavik University, which he also co-directs. Kris holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Sciences from the M.I.T. Media Lab. He is Associate Professor at Reykjavik University.
