The Wheel of Life was a class project about creating
an interactive space which would
respond to the presence of people
entering it and manipulating it.
It was built around a computer network
linking sensors to several Mac
workstations which would control
light, video and audio.

The Wheel

of Life

[WOL We built an entire set for the purpose of the project (see picture). It featured three spaces (Air, Water and Earth). For each one their was a "guide" whose actions would influence the environment of the "explorers" inside the space in the context of a story.
[AIR For our space (Air), we imagined an abstract spaceship being attacked by pirates. The role of the explorers and the guide was to understand the situation and how to liberate the spaceship. It was built around a huge bubble of mylar inflated with a large fan.
[AIR Monitors placed outside against the mylar would show images to the visitors inside the space as if they were hanging in the air. Besides participating to the overall design, defining the story elements, I worked more particularly on installing the sensors and connecting them to the software controlling the lights, the audio and the user interface for the "guide".
