"It was a Knowledge War", a special report on technology and the Gulf War

An interactive video report on the Gulf War. "It was a Knowledge War" has not been released publicly. As video becomes more pervasive over the Web, it is my hope to publish an online version with a new software engine and video indexing system.

"Culture Shock": information as entertainment

Culture Shock is a proposition for a cross-cultural experiment: it's about using the Web to "play" with various cultures, learn and be entertained.

One of the joys of travelling is to be exposed to other lifestyles and habits. French being born in South America, raised in France and married in the US, I can tell you all about the melting pot! Bumper stickers were one of the first things to catch my eye in America. The cultures I knew didn't use cars and T-shirts to express personal opinions. It felt like a great expression of democracy, freedom and individual creativity. It also seemed like a contradiction to the fact that many more people would cast a vote in some other countries. It's the starting point of an interesting reflection on society and culture.

This is what Culture Shock is about: pick a country, pick an activity as basic as driving, see how the experience compares in other countries and think about what it means. All the content is user contributed, selected and edited. It can take the form or still photography or video clips, essays, etc. Reviews reflects on the information collected. It's ethnography for the rest of us.

Articles

Once in a while and as time allows, I still write. "Start-up Cornucopia" (French only for now), is about the sudden increase of companies started by Media Lab graduates.

I also wrote recently for Le Monde about Wildfire and what it means to be an 8 year old start-up.
