| SmartSHELL is a system designed to help detect changes in motivation level and performance in an outdoor and indoor rowing setting. The system was designed by Gwelle Boissiere and the smartSHELL team in 1997. It was used during training sessions by the MIT Lightweight Crew, and it raced in the international rowing event, the Head of the Charles. The study was designed to study the level of motivation of each individual team member; the underlying hypothesis being that motivation is critical for performance, and when administered properly, it can help boost performance. This research was performed as part of the Affective Computing and Personal Information Architecture group of the MIT Media Laboratory. |
