Some of my favorite artists are Nas, Mary J. Blige, and Biggie Smalls. I usually listen to rap for the beats, not the lyrics; however, I do know weak lyrics when I hear them. Take, for example, "Envy" by Fat Joe. I LOVE that beat because it samples Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing," but his lyrics are so run-of-the-mill and boring that it is nauseating. This also applies to R&B because the beats are always on point, but the artists are usually talking about the same thing.
