Terms appear in boldface where they are defined. Sometimes new terms
are introduced without definition or before their definition; in these
cases, they appear in italics. In general, mathematical functions are
notated using Greek letters and variables are notated with Roman
letters. The plural form of an acronym will be the same as its
singular form, like the word ``moose.'' This avoids the appendage of
`s' or `(s)' to acronyms.
